Working principle (take three roots series as an example)：

Roots vacuum pump is a positive displacement vacuum pump. It uses a pair of figure 8 rotors to rotate in the pump casing at constant speed and reverse rotation to produce suction/exhaust. Because there is a certain gap between the rotor and the pump casing and between the rotor and the rotor, a part of the gas will flow back through the gap and the suction port during the working process, which affects the ultimate vacuum of the pump.
The suction/exhaust process of the Roots vacuum pump will produce compression heat. When the heat is too large and cannot be dissipated in time, it will cause the rotor to overheat and expand and become stuck. Therefore, it is usually not used alone, and a fore vacuum pump must be configured. When a bypass relief valve is added to the roots vacuum pump, it can start working simultaneously with the foreline vacuum pump without overloading. When the Roots vacuum pump is designed with a gas circulation cooling circuit, the temperature of the vacuum pump rotor can be cooled by cooling gas, which can alleviate the phenomenon of rotor overheating expansion and jamming. This kind of pump becomes an air-cooled Roots vacuum pump.
It is recommended to use a liquid ring vacuum pump as the fore vacuum pump of the Luo vacuum pump. Single, double and three roots pumps with liquid ring pumps are available. When water is used as the working fluid of the liquid ring pump, the ultimate pressures of 267Pa, 27Pa, 1Pa can usually be obtained, and it is applied to the suction pressure range of 10～8000Pa (equivalent to -0.096～-0.101MPa.G).

When the liquid ring pump uses transformer oil, ethylene glycol, sulfuric acid, aniline, tetrachloroethylene, etc. as the working fluid, the ultimate pressure and application range of the unit are more extensive.
When the air-cooled Roots pump and liquid ring pump are combined, the suction pressure can be broadened to the range of 10 to 20000Pa (equivalent to -0.08 to -0.101MPa.G), and the energy saving effect is more prominent.
The roots liquid ring vacuum unit can make up for the disadvantage of the single liquid ring pump's low vacuum degree, and can also be used to remove flammable, explosive, and small amount of dust and liquid process gas.
If the liquid ring pump in the vacuum unit adopts the closed-loop operation mode, there is basically no waste liquid discharge during the working process of the unit, so it is cleaner and environmentally friendly.
